How our wait list works
When a disease fund is closed at the PAN Foundation, you can join the wait list for that fund, for yourself or on behalf of your patient. When that fund receives funding, PAN will open the fund to the wait list to apply for financial assistance.
- When you join a wait list, you are put into a queue in order of when you originally signed up.
- When funding becomes available, PAN will notify you by email when the fund opens again. It is important to provide an email address you check regularly and easily.
- People on the wait list get the first chance to apply before the general public.
- You must apply within two business days of when the fund opens again, so make sure you don’t miss the application window.
- Grants are awarded in the order that a patient originally signed up for the wait list, not how quickly they responded to the notification.
Joining a wait list
Have this information on hand before you join a wait list:
- Patients and caregivers: your (the patient’s) full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, home address, phone number, and valid email address to contact you
- Providers and pharmacies: the patient’s full name, email address, or the email or another person to contact at your practice, in addition to the patient’s information
There are three easy ways to join a wait list. The fastest and easiest way is to sign up from the PAN website by finding your disease fund, then clicking the button to join the wait list. You can also call us to join a wait list, or log in to the PAN portal and sign up for a wait list within the portal. Detailed instructions are provided below:
-
The easiest way to join a wait list is to find your disease fund on our website. If a fund is closed, you can join the wait list.
- Check your eligibility using the checklist on the fund page. Eligibility varies by fund, and will include questions about your income level, health insurance, and covered medications.
- If you are eligible for a closed fund, then click “Join the wait list.” Note that you can join the wait list, but when you apply you must meet the eligibility criteria for the fund to be approved.
- You will get an email confirming that you’ve been added to the wait list. There will be instructions about what steps to take when the fund opens.
- When the fund opens in the future, you will receive another email notification with important information: a unique link and a unique wait list ID number. Make sure you sign up using an email address you check regularly.
-
- Go to the PAN portal and log in to your existing account. If you do not have an account yet, follow the instructions on-screen to register.
- Once logged in, go to the “Grants” tab, and select the “New grant” button in the upper right-hand corner.
- Review the eligibility criteria and enrollment checklist, then select “Next” at the bottom of the screen.
- You can then search using either your disease or your medication to find a disease fund. If the fund is closed, it will say “Closed, wait list available” next to the disease fund name.
- Select the closed disease fund you’re interested in joining the wait list for and then select “Next.”
- On the next screen, click the plus sign next to any medications you’re taking for this specific disease.
- Confirm that the medications you picked are accurate. If you’ve missed any medications or something does not look right, you can select the minus sign next to any medication you’d like to remove or select “Add another medication” to add a new medication. Once your list of medications is correct, select “Yes, begin application.”
- Confirm that you want to be added to the wait list by selecting “Yes.”
- Next, confirm that all of the personal and demographic information listed is still accurate. Please update anything that might have changed. Once you are done, select “Add to wait list” at the bottom of the screen.
- You will get an email confirming that you’ve been added to the wait list. There will be instructions about what steps to take when the fund opens.
- When the fund opens in the future, you will receive another email notification with important information: a unique link and a unique wait list ID number. Make sure you sign up using an email address you check regularly.

Important note about email addresses
We encourage you to make sure you sign up with an email address you check regularly. PAN will notify you by email when the fund opens to the wait list. This email will contain a unique link and a unique wait list ID number.
Providers and pharmacies: if your patient does not have an email address, you can provide your email address on behalf of the patient.
When the fund opens, apply as soon as possible
If you have signed up for the wait list, you will receive an email notifying you the fund is open to the wait list. That email will contain the patient’s name, a unique wait list ID number, and a unique link to the PAN portal. The ID number and link are unique to each person and cannot be used for other patients.
You will have two business days to apply online using the unique link in the email, or by phone. After two business days, the email link will expire.
If you do not apply within those two business days, you will be removed from the wait list.
You can join a wait list again anytime. However, we provide grants in the order people originally joined the wait list, not the order that they submitted their application. For example, if an eligible person was the first person to sign up for the wait list but is the last to apply during the two-day wait list period, they will get the first grant awarded.
Applying from a wait list
Once you get the email that your fund has opened to the wait list, you must submit an application within two business days.
There are two ways to apply from the wait list, whether you’re a patient, or applying on behalf of a patient:
- Apply online 24/7 in the PAN portal: In the email you received, click the unique link to be directed to our online portal and continue the application process as normal.
- Apply by phone: 1-866-316-7263, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET. In the email you received, you will receive a wait list ID number. When you call us to apply, please have the wait list ID number at the ready and a representative will help you through the application process.
Approval after you apply
Within four business days, you will be notified by email about grant approval. If you are awarded a grant, you can start using your grant right away.
If you are not awarded a grant because the funds have run out, you will stay on the wait list and you will be moved closer to the top of the list. You won’t lose your place on the wait list. You will be notified the next time your disease fund opens in wait list status.
Helping patients with wait lists
Providers and pharmacies can add their patients to a fund wait list. There is no limit on the number of patients you can sign up for a wait list, though you must sign up each patient individually because you/they will receive a unique link and unique wait list ID number.

Removing patients from a wait list
If your patient no longer needs help, send us a secure message in the portal or call us at 1-866-316-7263 or to remove their name from the wait list.
If your patient has received assistance from another foundation but may need help in the future, you are welcome to keep them on the wait list.
Keep in mind that your patient will be automatically removed from the wait list the next time the fund opens in wait list status if they do not apply.
FundFinder
You can also sign up for a FundFinder account. Making an account lets you browse a list of over 200 financial assistance programs, including the PAN Foundation. You can then follow any fund you want to get notified as soon as assistance is available.
